Topic: Palliative and end of life care for LGBT clients

Speaker: Claude Chidiac

Claude Chidiac graduated from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon with a BSc in Nursing. He completed an MSc in Palliative Care Clinical Practice at University College Dublin, Ireland. He obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice in Higher Education from King’s College London, UK and subsequently became a fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He is currently undertaking a PhD in Palliative Care at Lancaster University, UK. Claude has assumed a variety of clinical roles in acute (medical, surgical, and oncology), hospice, and community settings in Lebanon, Ireland, and UK.

Claude is a Lecturer in Palliative Care at Saint Francis Hospice. He is also the founder and course director of the MSc Palliative and End of Life Care at London South Bank University. His role involves designing, developing, coordinating, and delivering education programmes for health and social care professionals; including specialist BSc/MSc modules and courses in Palliative Care in collaboration with London South Bank University.

Saint Francis Hospice has launched a  90 minute training module designed for all health and social care professionals providing palliative and end of life care for LGBT people. The module aims to increase awareness of the specific needs of those from the LGBT community and is based on current guidance from Marie Curie, Care Quality Commission, National Council for Palliative Care, and national and international research.
